Underhill Road, Dulwich

Adding character to a contemporary new home to reflect the clients style and make it work for family life
The recently renovated Underhill Road property in Dulwich, while featuring generous spaces and good bones, lacked both personality and a sense of inviting comfort. Our clients sought to add their own style to the house and crucially, to redefine their expansive, somewhat 'cavernous,' open-plan kitchen diner, which suffered from a lack of a clear function. Our design approach centred on this main living area - containing the kitchen, dining, and living zones. A primary objective was to establish clearly defined areas within the open-plan space. We achieved this by installing a substantial built-in bench with integrated storage, which created a strong, grounding anchor for the dining area, while a large area rug visually delineated the living room zone. Given that the kitchen was newly installed, we worked with its existing layout, making careful modifications. This included painting the island and adding new hardware, ensuring the existing structure worked as a cohesive design.
